About the Founder

Craig Okins is the founder of Homeguard Senior Services, and caring for homes—and the people who live in them—has been part of his life for as long as he can remember.

Craig began doing household repairs in his early teenage years, learning by necessity and problem-solving as he went. His parents weren’t very handy, so if something needed fixing, Craig figured it out. That early experience shaped a lifelong habit: noticing what needs attention and taking the time to do it right.

Over the past 50 years, Craig has been a caretaker for apartment complexes, renovated numerous “fixer-upper” homes, and owned and managed many rental properties. Along the way, he’s seen firsthand how small issues—if ignored—can quietly turn into bigger problems. More importantly, he’s learned how much peace of mind comes from having someone you trust keeping an eye on things.

Today, Craig also works part-time at Island Living, an assisted living facility in Bird Island. In addition to handling building maintenance, he often helps cook and serve meals when needed. He also helped start a weekly Wednesday get-together—an open, welcoming time for anyone in the area to stop by for coffee, a snack, and good conversation with other seniors. It’s one of his favorite parts of the week.

Homeguard Senior Services grew naturally from Craig’s belief that seniors deserve more than quick fixes. They deserve patience, kindness, clear explanations, and regular check-ins from someone who genuinely cares. For Craig, it’s not just about maintaining a house—it’s about helping people feel safe, comfortable, and confident staying in the home they love.
